Session Submission Type: Paper Session 100min
In our society, bodies communicate ideals about social status, morality, sexuality, and other indicators of social positioning. In this session, scholars will discuss agency as it relates to the body. Topics include depiction of bodies in media, ethics of body part transplantation, and the stigmatization of bodies in different social settings. Our discussion will center on the lived experiences of othered bodies. We will investigate the avenues of resistance and agency for othered bodies and examine responses to that resistance.
