This presentation showcases how Highmark Health integrates sociological methods to reimagine the future of work in healthcare experience and engagement. I demonstrate this through three case studies illustrating my company's commitment to understanding the social context of health behaviors and optimizing interventions.
First, I detail a mixed-methods project employing in-depth interviews and surveys to understand the needs and mindsets of dual-eligible (Medicare and Medicaid) beneficiaries. This sociological approach helps us tailor communication strategies to resonate with people's lived experiences, resulting in more effective outreach and improved health outcomes.
Second, I present a survey project designed to identify post-hospitalization care needs. This project leverages sociological understanding of patient transitions to inform the development of improved care services, creating a more responsive and patient-centered support system.
Third, I illustrate the use of a sophisticated dashboard analytics tool designed to enhance the effectiveness of outreach campaigns, specifically targeting mammogram and other preventive appointments. By integrating capacity and utilization data, we ensure timely access to care.
This talk offers valuable insights for sociologists seeking impactful careers outside academia, showcasing how sociological knowledge and skills can be applied to improve the lives of vulnerable populations.
