Abstract

Family is the basic social institution in any society. It functions as the basic unit that produces future generations, impact love and affection to children and facilitates the socialisation process. The welfare of children is largely part of the family and stakeholders responsibility in any society. However, the traditional role played by the family in society has changed drastically in the recent past due to a number of interrelated factors. Therefore, this study was conducted to find out the impact of the family on the well-being of children in contemporary society, Stakeholders influence on family and at the same time to understand the factors that negatively affect the social and psychological learning conditions of children. The study was conducted using quantitative research method. Data were collected from 12 communities in Anambra State in eastern Nigeria using 390 correspondents basically from parents and guidance and were analysed involving the use of SPSS Statistics version 24. The study assesses the structural model by following Hair et al. (2019) as well as Urbach & Ahlemann (2010) recommendations such as coefficient of determination (R2), effect size (f2), predictive relevance (Q2), and path coefficient. The study found that there are a variety of interrelated causes that negatively affect children's well-being. These causes include family disharmony, lack of love, care and affection for children, family violence, peers in learning environment, family income and discrimination against children on socio-cultural grounds. The study recommends policy objective of improving the well-being system for young people as this requires further action. It was encouraging to see that the national policies emphasize the importance of improving the quality of service delivery to be spread not only within the metropolitan environment but also to the rural areas of the nation, collaboration, and strengthening the workforce system andto ensure that of the community development is well structured. Nevertheless, implementation mechanisms, access to government strategic data processes, integration, and navigation for adolescents' well- being continue to be hampered by the relative invisibility of adolescent and young adult needs within the public sphere.
