This project explores best practices in mentorship for graduate students. Drawing on semi-structured interviews with 20 doctoral candidates, the study examines the benefits of having more than one mentor and how identity characteristics such as First Gen status, race, LGBTQ membership, and parental status affect the quality of mentorship that respondents perceive they receive from their mentors. Doctoral candidates share what tactics they utilize to get strong mentorship from their mentors, advisors, dissertation chairs, etc.
