Preparing for Future: Research on Chinese Graduates’ Employability Development Trajectory

Abstract

From the perspective of "positive youth development (PYD)", this paper employs a qualitative research design to illuminate the shaping progress of the employability development trajectory of 20 Chinese graduates. It elucidates the impact of valuable resources, influential social networks, outstanding cultural
capital, and the freedom of choice and guarantee of pathways provided by the synergy of these forces within a specific economic and social system on Chinese graduates' employability development trajectory.The paper particularly emphasizes that fully leveraging individual initiative through the construction of a
value chain is the driving force behind the formation of their employability development trajectory across four different stages. It identifies three upward trends of Chinese graduates' employability development trajectory: an overall upward trend, a leap upward trend, and a stepped upward trend, with "upward"
being the predominant theme characterizing Chinese graduates'employability development trajectory,which support them to do good preparation for their future success in work world.
