Title: Perspectives on Energy Justice: Attitudes towards CO2 Conversion Technology

Tue, August 12, 12:00 to 1:30pm, West Tower, Hyatt Regency Chicago, Floor: Ballroom Level/Gold, Regency A

Abstract

The primary goal of our proposed work is to assess the social opportunities and constraints associated with implementing and participating in newly developed technical solutions to climate change. Under this topic, we will answer the following questions: (1) What are the opportunities and barriers regarding participation in carbon management projects? (2) What information do people have regarding carbon management projects, and how do they understand this information? (3) How is community knowledge and cross-cultural ways of understanding the energy transition represented in carbon management decisions? To understand the justice challenges of carbon management, we need to determine the existing opportunities/limitations to participation and representation, how discussions of carbon management are typically practiced, and what structures/institutions currently exist to help integrate new approaches and marginalized voices. To accomplish this, we use surveys to gain a better understanding of the broader population's participation and representation in discussions regarding carbon management. These surveys consist of questions that gather information regarding participation and representation in carbon management decision-making processes.
