Perceived Algorithm Control and Service Performance: Exploring the Influence of Workplace Anxiety and Procedural Justice

Sat, August 9, 2:00 to 3:00pm, Swissotel, Floor: Concourse Level, Zurich B

Abstract

With the rapid development of Internet emerging technologies such as big data and 5G communication, the scale of digital economy is growing day by day. Although the platform's algorithms operate according to certain rules and have the characteristics of objectivity and fairness, at the same time, the algorithm also provides comprehensive monitoring of gig workers. The survey covered 316 workers and the research results show that perceptual algorithm control significantly affects employee service performance. It was found that the perception algorithm control of gig workers enhances their sense of program fairness, improves their service performance, induces workplace anxiety, and thus reduces their service performance. The quality and perceived algorithmic control of informal interaction play a moderating role in workplace anxiety and procedural fairness. This study provides direction for improving algorithm management, enhancing employee service performance, and enhancing the stickiness and loyalty of gig workers to the platform.
