This invited session sponsored by the Theory section extends the theoretical insights of WEB DuBois on the global color line and racialized subjectivity in a number of exciting directions relevant to contemporary social theorists. Two panelists will reflect on DuBois’s historical influence on sociology by analyzing the work of his contemporaries studying race relations and his debt to Irene Diggs in his work on global racial formations. Two panelists will focus on how DuBois’s legacy helps us make sense of contemporary events through an analysis of his theories of labor and social movements as well as his theories of Pan-Africanism and Zionism.
