What can "writing to the public" mean? What does publishing an essay, an article in a newspaper, or an op-ed mean for a graduate student? This graduate professionalization panel will discuss the practices and meanings of writing about culture outside scientific venues. With our panelists, we will explore what forms "writing to the public" can have, how to pitch articles and op-eds and discuss our research in public venues, and how these practices relate to sociologists' professional identities and trajectories.
