Community-engaged scholarship is multidisciplinary work that is reciprocal and mutually beneficial between universities and communities with the goal of social justice (London et al. 2024). The objective of this workshop is to provide a toolkit developed by the Sociology Action Network for academics going up for tenure and promotion, for departments preparing to evaluate a community-engaged scholar, and for external reviewers tasked with reviewing a promotion and tenure case for a community-engaged scholar. The toolkit is part of a larger W.T. Grant project on community-engaged scholarship and tenure and promotion.
The workshop will specifically examine how to develop a promotion and tenure dossier for community-engaged scholars. The panelists will discuss best practices for putting together a packet for assistants going to associate level, and for associates to full professor. In addition, the workshop will discuss guidelines departments can use when evaluating community-engaged scholars and recommendations for external reviewers.
