The Examination of Family Motivation on Employees’ Work Behaviours in Precarious Working Conditions

Sat, August 8, 2:00 to 3:00pm, TBA

Abstract

Precarious employment has become a growing concern globally. In Pakistan and other developing economies, the rise of precarious employment can exacerbate vulnerabilities among workers, being unstable, limited access to benefits and social protections. Our study primarily attempts to know the consequence of employment precariousness and the boundary conditions that hold employees to accept and continue the adverse employment conditions. A reasonable sample of 254 employees working under precarious working conditions were obtained randomly from various sectors of Pakistan. Results showed the inverse relationship between Precarious working conditions to employees’ intrinsic motivation that further cause turnover intentions. However, employees with strong family motivation to expend effort to benefit family, tend to hold precarious working conditions. The discussions and implications are presented based on the results of the study.
