Experience with Sexy Photography for Women over 35

Abstract

Qualitative interviews with women aged 35 and up (n=27, average age 47.8) reveal their engagement with digital technology and experience taking sexy photos. Among these women, they have various experiences with sexy photography: 18 (67%) report sending sexy pics, three (11%) have done amateur erotic photos, and 19 have done professional boudoir photo shoots (70%), with many (n=12; 44%) reporting both sexting and boudoir experience. Results show that women feel empowered when taking sexy pictures, and sending them to partners provides them with a way to initiate sex. They also expend energy and resources on their appearance to conform to contemporary beauty standards.
