The dual process model is generally recognized as a predominant approach in research on cognition and culture. Yet it has also been critiqued as limited with regard to context, dualism/duality, and embodiment. A number of researchers - both in sociology and cognitive neuroscience - are finding pragmatism to be a useful alternative. One such approach, John Dewey's (1922) triple process perspective on human nature and cognition, is explored and evaluated in this regard.
