Session Submission Type: Paper Session (90 minute)
Gayle Rubin reminds us that society only venerates a narrow kind of sex (e.g. that which is monogamous) and relegates all other kinds to the marginalized “outer limits.” Increasingly, scholars are documenting the creativity and diversity present in the “outer limits.” This session highlights scholarship that explores the diverse and creative ways in which people engage in sex and relationships beyond monogamous exclusivity. We welcome papers that engage with relationship structures and sexual practices that challenge conventional monogamous norms, including but not limited to asexual, consensually non-monogamous, kinky, polyamorous, and polygamous arrangements.
