Session Submission Type: Workshop
This 90-minute workshop provides practical training on how to access and use recent U.S. Census Bureau data. The session focuses on building skills that support community level research and classroom instruction by helping participants locate, interpret, and download relevant data.
The workshop will provide a brief overview of American Community Survey (ACS) estimates, which provide data on income, poverty, educational attainment, employment, housing costs, and homeownership.
The session will then move into hands on navigation of the U.S. Census Bureau’s main data platform, data.census.gov. Through a live demonstration and guided exercise, participants will learn how to explore filters, search for results, select geographic areas, compare data across places, and download the data from the American Community Survey. The session will also highlight updates to the platform’s main landing page and share practical tips and tricks for locating documentation and related resources. Please bring your laptop to make the most of this session.
