Session Submission Type: Interactive Workshop
This is Part 2 of a two-part session on teaching repression. Part 2 highlights the imperative of centering Black women's voices in education as a means of resistance and empowerment, through a course that integrates Black feminist sociology and qualitative research methodologies, in the presentation “’But Some of Us Are Brave:’ Centering Black Women’s Voices in the Classroom.” Additionally, the second presentation, “’Good Luck Babes:” Creating Resistance through Lavender Graduations at Community Colleges,” explores the role of LGBTQIA+ clubs at community colleges as essential spaces for identity exploration, community development, and political activism. Through lavender graduations and testimonies, these clubs promote inclusivity and challenge societal norms, emphasizing the importance of student agency and the intersectionality of experiences within both classroom and community settings.
