The Prince Hall Masonic Historical Sites Project

Sat, Oct 8, 8:30 to 9:50am, Richmond Marriott Hotel, Richmond Marriott Hotel Salon A-AV Room

Abstract

Explores the historical context that influenced the development of the Prince Hall Masonic Historical Sites Project, a national effort established in 2007 and designed to identify, record, and promote an awareness of Prince Hall-related historic sites located in the various jurisdictions throughout the United States. Focuses on the challenges, opportunities, and role of members of the Order of the Eastern Star (PHA), in the preservation of their historic sites. Describes the manner in which this collaborative effort preserves and revives the history of Prince Hall women for future generations, and helps others discover an aspect of African American women’s history that has been ignored, and at risk of becoming invisible.
