Abstract

The long-standing legacy, reputation and scholarly endeavors of ASALH have inspired us as Information professionals to continue to develop closer ties. Librarians have a strong and rich history of groundbreaking service to ASALH. As subject specialists in leading African American Collections academic; public and private libraries, we believe this collaboration will afford greater cooperation and access to research support and increased scholarship on Dr. Woodson’s life and legacy. In addition we will be discussing the importance of the Digital Humanities Project to all of the Academic institutions in the Maryland, DC and Virginia area. This meeting session will be an excellent opportunity to disseminate the three year digital grant and the collaboration component that will be critical outreach for the project.
The Round Table Discussion will also highlight other projects of the Information Professionals Group such as our continued efforts to serve as liaisons to the ASALH Branches. Information Professional Liaisons serve as a strategic plan for building working relationship on the branch level. In turn, the Association continues to offer the Information professionals a wonderful opportunity to network with ASALH scholars and contribute to the development of educational resources for the study of people of African descent. We feel strongly that as Africana Studies Librarians, we are able to support the annual programs of ASALH.
