Abstract

This plenary explores the role of different types of African American museums as repositories of knowledge, facilitators of cultural education and institutions that both inform and influence the public on issues of African American life and history. Our panelists include Dr. Lonnie Bunch III of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Charles Newsome from the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, LaNesha DeBardelaben of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Lauranett Lee, formerly of the Virginia Historical Society and Bob Kendrick of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
