In this presentation, I will explore the role that Afrofuturism and Sankofa can play in shaping the trajectory of educational research towards inclusivity and equity. By examining the intersection of race and methodology, I will illuminate the potential to address systemic disparities entrenched within educational systems. Through Afrofuturism and Sankofa, Black education researchers can uncover nuanced insights into the multifaceted experiences of Black students within educational contexts.
Drawing from several recent empirical studies, I demonstrate how Afrofuturism and Sankofa offer unique opportunities to deconstruct prevailing narratives and unveil hidden structures of inequity. This presentation underscores the significance of adopting culturally inclusive approaches that center the voices and experiences of Black people within educational institutions in the United States.
