The Underground Railroad in Western Pennsylvania

Abstract
The Burleigh Legacy Alliance created the Ada Lawrence-Johnny Johnson Archive in 2022 with support from the Pennsylvania Humanities Council. This collection preserved thousands of documents about the Underground Railroad and the Black Freedom Struggle in western Pennsylvania. Participants in this session will learn about the ongoing work in Erie, Cleveland, and Buffalo to protect rare documents that focus on African American contributions to music, education, and civil rights history.
