The Graphic History Company created the Graphic History of Hip Hop in 2024 in partnership with the New York City Department of Education. It has become the most exciting educational resource in the world over the last six months. Participants in this session will explore the power of graphic and digital arts to transform history education at every level. Organizations like the American Historical Association and the Organization of American Historians have already recognized the importance of this work in graduate training and professional development. With the unexpected passing of Angel David Nieves in December 2023, the field of Black Digital Humanities was shaken to its foundations. Over the last decade, no area of Black history has generated more public engagement than the expansion of professional history into libraries, museums, and parks around the world. Participants in this session will share their experiences in this revolutionary academic work and its vitality for future social impact.
