Little information on dissemination of publications on criminological and criminal justice knowledge and practice in East Asia in which one-fifth of the world’s population lives is available. This study is a content analysis of sixteen “elite journals” in the discipline. The researchers examined all articles published from 2000 to the present to determine how much emphasis has been focused on criminology or criminal justice in East Asia. In addition to the frequency of manuscripts, the current study identified East Asian countries under study, topical areas, and differences among the journals. If understanding crime and justice in a global context is a research priority in the discipline, it is anticipated that this will be substantiated through the published literature. This research is important in providing information seekers with a guide to what research in East Asia is being published.
