This paper analyzes the murders committed by Gordon Northcott and Carl Panzram during the 1920’s in the Los Angeles and along the East Coast. The murders will be analyzed using routine activities theory to understand how these killers chose their victims, as it appears that they were selected based on opportunity (i.e. lack of capable, suitable target). GIS analysis will be employed to comprehend how gender, culture, economics, and victim/offender characteristics intersect with these crimes. In addition will attempt to draw conclusions as to the motives behind these crimes.
