The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (FLDJJ) recently launched a project designed to see whether machine learning and data analytics could substantially improve their risk assessment, classification and case management process. While this project is still underway, the preliminary findings suggest that machine learning and data analytics generate superior results over the system and tools FLDJJ currently has in place. The findings from this project not only have significant implications for FLDJJ but for other youth probation and corrections systems as well.
