Western literature has commonly focused on the influence of drug treatment on crime reduction using prison populations. The present study represents an effort to assess the impact of criminal involvement on drug abuse treatment in a context of the unique drug law enforcement and drug treatment policy of China. The assessment is conducted using data collected from a sample of 394 drug users in a treatment camp in a large city of China, 2013. Multivariate analyses of official criminal records and self-reported crime data along with important demographic variables and treatment factors are performed to determine the potential impact of criminal involvement on the outcomes of drug treatment.
