America has been termed a rape culture due to the prevalence of sexual objectification, rape trivialization and victim blaming (e.g. slut shaming). With the popularity of the music industry, videos and lyrics are likely to encourage and support this culture. A content analysis of the top forty mainstream music videos and lyrics were coded for themes. Our findings indicated a presence of rape culture and violence against women in most songs and videos. The poster presentation addresses our research findings and implications for society.
