There has been considerable work done over the past several years, into psychological profiling of violent offenders, with some notable success. Efforts to replicate those principals used to profile violent offenders have been applied to the white collar criminal, with far less success, . Given the significant amounts of damage done by what we typically classify as white collar crime, discovering a method of recognizing potential risks before the damage takes place, finding a dependable method of identifying those already in a work force most likely to commit a white collar crime, could prove to be a highly useful tool in the law enforcement and risk management fields.
In an effort to add to the field of research in this area, the National White Collar Crime Center analyzed more than 3,000 individual cases in an attempt to determine if analysis of a large data base of cases would reveal statistically identifiable characteristics of those engaged in white collar crime that could be used to aid in the development of a White Collar Criminal Profile.
