Framed within the intersectionality approach and prior research that emphasizes stereotyping, this research compares juvenile case outcomes of offender types (person, property, drug, status, probation violator, etc.) and whether the observed relationships are tempered by the race and gender of the youth. Data are used from three states to examine how offenders are treated and to what extent race and gender individually and in combination with offense type impact decision-making. The results have potential to provide greater insights into the contexts of race and gender disparities in decision-making. Policy strategies that promote the equitable treatment of all offenders in juvenile justice proceedings will also be discussed.
