The Allocation of Police Resources and Practices among New York City Precincts

Abstract

The paper uses panel data for 75 New York City precincts over a 10-year time span to examine the allocation of police personnel among the precincts, as well as the factors that influence the rate of felony arrests, misdemeanor arrests, and arrests for violations. Particular attention is given to the racial and ethnic composition of a precinct's population as determinants of these allocations.
