The Risk Terrain Modeling (RTM) technique was used to provide a viable, actionable context of the criminological environment in a certain geographic area of Kansas City, Missouri known to be victimized by chronic crime and disorder. Strategies derived from RTM analysis provided a more panoptic view of these chronic problems, in turn allowing for a more holistic intervention when compared to traditional tactics commonly used by law enforcement agencies. This study measures the effects of a multifaceted crime-reduction intervention conducted by the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department (KCPD) and its civic and community partners and stakeholders, all of whom were engaged to bring their respective contributions valuable to the intervention's goal but outside the KCPD's purview.
