Risk Terrain Modeling (RTM) is applied retroactively to analyze violent crime risk patterns prior to the implementation of a directed police patrol intervention in a Midwestern city with high levels of violent crime. The results of the RTM analyses are compared with the actual hot-spots identified for targeting the directed police patrols. The analyses then focus on changes in risk patterns following the directed police patrol intervention. Implications for the use of RTM for targeted interventions in geographic areas suffering from high levels of violent crime are discussed.
