Three Generations Through Prison: Narratives of Intergenerational Incarceration

• In Event: The Impact of Parental Incarceration on Children's Offending and Incarceration

Abstract

This paper draws on select interview data from the Generations Through Prison project. It explores the life histories of a cohort of adult males and females reporting three or more direct generations of incarceration in their familial lineage (eg grandfather, father, son; grandmother, son, daughter). Particular attention is given to participants' understandings of how the legacies of incarceration have impacted the life course.
