Applying Feminist Theory to Arts Behind Bars Programs

Abstract

This paper will examine how I moved from utilizing feminist theory in the social sciences to incorporating these theories in the development and implementation of an Arts Behind Bars program. The discussion will include the manner in which we utilized the principles of feminist theory to design the program, the rationale for and the topics included, which topics were effective and why they worked. In addition, examples of the young women's poetry will be used to show the influence of feminist theory in their writing.
