Services for Dating and Sexual Violence on College Campuses

Abstract

This study examined provision of dating and sexual violence services among large public universities. Representatives from 45 universities were interviewed about services, how information about services was communicated to students, campus policies and judicial procedures, trainings offered by the institution, barriers and underserved groups, and thoughts on improving services. Institutions generally responded to sexual assault and dating violence by offering counseling, campus police and security, a women's center, and advocacy or support. However, training was generally uncommon and universities did not consistently have policies and protocols. Several improvements such as enhanced service delivery and outreach to more diverse groups are needed.
