A Theoretical Analysis of Inmates’ Perceptions on Reporting Inmate Violence

Sat, Nov 22, 8:00 to 9:20am, Marriott, Pacific A, 4th Floor

Abstract

This research examines inmates’ perceptions of prison violence and the techniques used to avoid the victimization process while in prison. The data were collected through the use of self-report surveys on over 400 inmates. This study offers an in-depth understanding of the prison environment with a unique perspective about the prison culture and the victimization process. It offers a theoretical understanding as to why inmates may or may not be willing to come forward to speak out about the victimization process in prison.
