Returning to the community is a time of heightened risk for substance abusing parolees. Accessing and maintaining substance abuse treatment outside of the prison plays an important role in parolee well-being and resilience to reoffending. This study examines the relationship between reentry services, such as reentry planning, case management establishment and health insurance assistance, provided to inmates prior to their release from prison, and the receipt of substance abuse treatment both 3 months and 9 months after release. To establish whether there is a link between these pre-release services a multi-nomial logit model will be used. Additionally, variations based on state context will be examined to determine whether the location of the reentry service provision affects the likelihood of treatment receipt. Based on these results, some preliminary implications on post-release treatment services improvement will be presented.
