The cost of imprisonment remains high. Budgetary constraints faced by most states have resulted in an increased interest in reducing prison populations while simultaneously reducing recidivism rates. This latter goal has created a renewed interest in “street readiness” programs which would could potentially decrease prison readmission following release. Project Pride is a reentry program operated in Nevada, the goal being to assist inmates who are close to the completion of their sentences, with a number of therapeutic, structural, and informational programming options. This research examines the effectiveness of Project Pride, determines which inmate factors are most and least related to successful transition to the outside, and creates a profile of the successful prisoner for the Nevada Department of Corrections.
