Assessing the Relationship between Fatal and Non-Fatal Firearm Violence Using Subnational Victimization Data

• In Event: How Low Can You Go? Using Victimization Data to Study Subnational Crime Trends and Patterns

Abstract

Using area-identified data from the National Crime Victimization Survey this paper examines the extent to which non-fatal firearm violence is associated with fatal firearm violence from 2006 to 2012. We anticipate that fatal and non-fatal firearm violence would be highly associated at the subnational level and exhibit consistent victim demographics (gender, race/ethnicity) within each area type.
