This paper examines the relationship between measures of female economic independence and intimate-partner violence. Using area-identified data from the National Crime Victimization Survey this paper compares the victimizations rates for intimate-partner violence by female employment status in areas classified as low, medium and high female participation in the labor force. We test the hypotheses that women have a greater opportunity for earning potential the less likely they are to experience abusive relationships.
