Thu, Nov 20, 11:00am to 12:20pm, Marriott, Sierra B, 5th Floor

Abstract

Acid attack is one of the horrendous violence against women in India. There is no separate statistics available since Indian Criminal law does not recognize it as a separate offense. These shameful acts are committed when a girl refuses to accept the proposal of her boyfriend. The most notable effects of an acid attack is the lifelong bodily disfigurement. According to researchers and activists, several countries like Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Hong Kong, China, the United Kingdom, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda and Ethiopia had witnessed acid attack incidence. However, the highest incidence of acid attacks are happening in India as an extreme form of violence against women. The perpetrators often got away free without punishment whereas the victim suffers in pain and poverty. Recently in the year 2013 under section 326 (a and b) the offender will be punished by Imprisonment. The purpose of this qualitative research is to bring out the plight and after effects of the victims of acid attack
