Tracking Crime Guns: From Legal Sale to Use in Crime

Abstract

We describe an effort to track crime guns from first legal sale to use in a crime. Data sources include interviews with first purchaser and offenders, and analysis of trace data. The results describe the gun market and offer suggestions to police for more effective disruptions of that market.
