Addressing Community Conflict in the Dominican Republic: Evaluation of the Youth Mediators Program

Fri, Nov 21, 12:30 to 1:50pm, Marriott, Foothill J, 2nd Floor

Abstract

The Youth Mediators(Jóvenes Mediadores) Program was developed as part of the Alerta Joven Project implemented in the Dominican Republic by the U.S. Agency for International Development. The program has been implemented in three distinct communities and is built on the premise that trained youth mediators can be effective in resolving community conflicts and improve civic participation and positive behaviors among youth. This presentation will present preliminary findings of the program evaluation and will make recommendations for how the successes can be replicated and pitfalls can be avoided.
