OJJDP’s has developed and sponsored data collection programs designed to produce nationally-representative information about youth involved in the juvenile justice system. OJJDP’s statistical collections have historically focused on three areas: (1) cases handled by courts with juvenile jurisdiction; (2) juveniles on probation; and (3) juvenile facilities and juveniles in residential placement. This presentation will focus on the scope, design, strengths, and limitations of OJJDP’s data collection efforts and the availability of data in hopes of promoting future studies.
