Seasonal Variation within High Crime Street Segments in Cincinnati.

Abstract

The group-based trajectory models (Nagin and Land, 1993) have recently been applied to the street segments to identify crime trends (Weisburd et al, 2004). The current study has three objectives. First, we replicate Weisburd et al.’s study using 10 years of Cincinnati Police Department crime data. Second, we examine the street segments that fall within high stable or increasing trajectories and run another trajectory analysis by using the same months/seasons across ten years. In this way, we reveal seasonal fluctuations in selected segments. Finally, we explore crime concentration on these street segments across years.
