This study aims to examine citizens’ confidence in police in twenty former African colonies. More specifically we examine if police integrity, procedural fairness, and trust in government are good predictors of citizen confidence in police. Drawing our conceptual framework from theoretical contributions of Taylor and his colleagues we will analyze citizens’ confidence in police. We further examine if the levels of democracy and the history of colonization have an impact on determining citizens’ confidence in police. Findings and policy implications will be explored.
