Understanding disproportionate minority contact with the juvenile justice system even when the minority group is the majority population

Abstract

The presentation will examine data to identify disparities in the handling of youth of Hispanic ethnicity. The Relative Rate Index methodology use by states reporting Disproportionate Minority Contact data to the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention will be discussed including issues relating to handling the data when Hispanic youth are the majority rather the minority group in a jurisdiction.
