Canadian dairy farmers are increasingly concerned with the education of consumers through direct farm participation in order to construct a positive image of food safety. This paper explores the potential implications of such events on the ability of governmental agencies, such as the CFIA, in maintaining national food safety through the food recall process. Semi-structured interviews with dairy farmers in a small county in southern Ontario were performed in a previous study analyzing food safety responsibility. Issues of legitimacy, power, and acts of protest will be considered as they relate to the field of Food Crime, emphasizing the significance of the harm of unsafe food. This paper seeks to ground the considerations of future research in forms of food safety education.
