Understanding Target Selection for Repeat and Near Repeat Burglary

Abstract

Understanding factors related to burglary perpetration can be useful for predicting and preventing future burglary incidents. This research analyzes factors related to burglary perpetration, particularly repeat and near repeat burglaries, in a medium sized New England town. Using multiple sources including incident reports, arrest reports, census data, and property appraiser information, the findings from this study can aid law enforcement and homeowners in allocating resources accordingly to prevent burglary victimization.
