Prior research has indicated the structure of a family is significantly related to juvenile criminal behavior. Adolescents residing in a "broken home" have been shown to be positively associated with juvenile delinquency as well as other risky behaviors. However, little research has sought to differentiate the effect by gender of the child or parent. Using the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, this study sought to analyze the criminal behavior of adolescents with a father figure present in the home. Differences were found based on race and gender of the adolescent.
